Specifically Sihkism. Apparently this is a reactionary developed religion. Half Islamic and half a stranger and somehow less Hindu crossbreed.

I would like to ask the women of the board why a woman might not or might want to be a part if Sihkism.

I have av female acquaintance that is being indoctrinated by this group and I believe, it is the appeal to culture that draws her.

She thinks I find it interesting that she is going to a monastery this next weekend.

I think it's sad.

Sufism is said to predate Islam, which is a newcomer among world religions. Don't judge the perennial philosophy elements by how some exploitative sects adulterate them. The infamous Aum Shinrikyo in Japan used elements of Buddhism, Hinduism, Yoga, etc., but engaged its followers in urban terrorism. Obviously the philosophy didn't sink it correctly. The perennial philosophy transcends any culture, but cultures use expropriated elements to perpetuate themselves.

The fact that cultures use and abuse any elements of perennial philosophy to perpetuate themselves is precisely why we must remain skeptical of ALL such claims of knowledge. Or at least remain skeptical of the groups. Even if said knowledge is in fact 'true', the beliefs are not based on empirical evidence. They should remain in the realm of personal beliefs. And luckily they usually do. Its not like you see Buddhists knocking door to door.

Ummm, Sufi's and Sikhs are entirely different religions. We have a lot of Sikhs here in the UK. As far as I'm aware they don't look for converts - I've never met a white one, they're all Indian. Nice, friendly bunch of people mostly. Believe in equality for women. A lot of Sikh women in the UK are very successful.

The particular sect I am dealing with and my acquaintanceship as well, is an American splinter sect.
