Yeah, I know! A very broad question!

Could someone please check out this site (which is Drupal) www.thewellingtonnews.co.uk and this site www.thatschristmas.co.uk and please tell me (£ or $) how much you think the first site should cost to be built, and then tell me how much the second site should cost to have it produced as a Drupal site?

I know this is very off topic, but your guys are my family, and you KNOW **lots** of stuff, damnit! ;oD

Mmmm, looks like something anybody can set up for themselves. I wouldn't pay too much if I were you. 2 to 4 hours of work should do the trick (assuming some serverside work needs to be done).

It also looks like shite, at least the two links you gave. Maybe you can look at Wordpress or Blogger.

I use Blogger for my site, stripped all the bloggy features away and now it just looks like an ordinary website. And I know nothing about HTML.

I will not use Blogger, as they kept pulling my sites for allegations of spamming. A contact in their press office admitted that they had done something wrong, but said that officially they would do nothing to put it right. Internal politics, apparently... Heard of similar problems with Wordpress, from someone who got their fingers burnt.

Hmm. So you wouldn't go with Drupal? Any other ideas for a similar product?

Joomla's more widely used, in my experience. I use it for any sites I design that are any more involved than a holding page. I've tried Drupal, but am not a fan. A basic Joomla setup shouldn't cost much more than $300 + costs for any paid add-ons wanted (templates, plug-ins, etc., if you want ones that aren't free).

I will experiment with Joomla, later. Thanks.

I have seen a Joomla site, so I know how they look in action. Thanks for your input on this.

but then I found MediaWiki - Drupal took a year to get a grip on, MediaWiki took less than two weeks to start doing really advanced stuff.
