Legislation introduced in Romania, which recently began taxing soothsayers and fortune tellers for their trade, will impose fines or prison for those whose predictions don't come true.

Government officials see this as a sort of Refiner's Fire, which will burn off all those fraudulent palm-readers, Stake Patriarchs, and crystal-ball-gazers trying to scam the gullible population. In the end the only ones left will be those who really can predict the future (most of whom will then gain employment on Wall Street and make a killing).

Practitioners, perhaps fearful of government corruption and persecution, are having none of this: "I will fight until my last breath for this not to be passed!" cried Brother Vlad D. Rackyoula, Stake Patriarch for the Bucharest West Stake, as he packed his temple kit and prepared for his monthly visit to the Fortress of Darkness in Kyiv, Ukraine ( http://lds.org/church/temples/kyiv-ukraine?lang=eng ).
