"Confession: A Roman Catholic app, aims to being modern Catholics back to the faith through a 'personalized examination of conscience for each user.' The app walks users through the sacrement, though, according to ABC News, doesn't act as a substitute for the real thing.

"From 'The New York Daily News':

"'Our desire is to invite Catholics to engage in their faith through digital technology,' said Patrick Leinen of the three-man company 'Little iApps,' based in South Bend, Indiana.
'Taking to heart Pope Benedict XVI's message from last years' World Communications Address, our goal with this project is to offer a digital application that is truly 'new media at the service of the word.'

"The app is thought to be the first approved by a church authority (though other religious apps do exist), and leads Catholics through an 'Examination of Conscience,' helping users figure out what their real sins are, according to ABC News. But the app goes beyond the standard 10 Commandments.

"From ABC News:

"'The sinful suggestions the app offers are inventive and even age appropriate.

"'An example given by iPhone is, "I think my cousin is hot, but I'd never go there because it's socially unacceptable...' OK."

It's not actually for confession -- the rite of reconciliation. It's just for the examination of conscience that the Catholic is supposed to do prior to confession. It's basically a list of possible sins that one can look over and use to get an idea of what needs to be confessed. The church's policy requiring confessions to be done in person -- with a real priest -- has not changed.
