In an excellent interview, made available online today, NPR's "Fresh Air" host interviews Lawrence Wright. Wright is the journalist who wrote the article that appeared in The New Yorker.

While much of the interview covers the same ground as the article, there are some new and fresh insights, particularly into the methods Wright used to research the article, and into the methods fact-checkers used to vet the facts.

Toward the end of the interview, Wright sums up by saying that he had proof that L. Ron Hubbard was lying about his military record, lying about his injuries supposedly sustained in WWII, and lying about healing himself using techniques now taught in Scientology courses. Wright could lay that proof on the table in front of any Scientologist, proof that the foundational beliefs of the religion were false, and still some Scientologists would not care. They would protect themselves from knowing the truth
