I am being thrust into a volunteer position where I'll be farewelling the current organization's leader, temporarily serving has the leader before welcoming/transitioning the replacement. This will take place over a 6 month period. I'm having to coordinate a farewell dinner for several hundred people where I will be the MC. I will be heading up a few committees as well. As an introvert at heart, this is not my forte, but I'm willing to do what I've been asked to do. This is not a paid position, so there's no real support or formal mentoring.

Can anyone recommend leadership books, podcasts, websites, to help me?

Maybe ask the current org lead what makes her/him most proud of their time with the org. How would s/he like to be remembered? What was their pet project? What outcome gave them the most satisfaction?

How was the new person chosen? By committee or a board? Ask someone involved in the decision-making process why they chose the new person -- what qualities did they see?

I had a professor tell me that when I give a speech, I'm the expert on whatever the heck I'm talking about. Of course that's never true, but it gives me a heck of a boost.
