Is the LDS church now doing a rent-a-prophet?

This is a continuation of the Zions Bank threads, but with a different angle.

So the LDS church no longer owns Zions Bank, but has a close working relationship of some sort. But the bank can get the prophet to come do a dedication of one of their buildings.

What would it take for say Micron or some other company to get the prophet to come down and do a dedication/publicity thing for them? Do they just get on the phone and say, "Hey, we need the big guy down here, what's it going to cost?"

When a prophet will show up for publicity stunts for another company, that kind of feels like a rent-a-prophet.

Why would a legitimate business have a church leader (of any type of church) offer a dedicatory prayer?

Fat lot of good that prayer did!

Perhaps he was praying as a man...

Note the quote from TSM: "You can rest assured that this Church doesn't put its investments and its confidence in anything that isn't stable, honorable and has a record of performance and integrity."

So, if the bank tanks, will the church step in and support it? How about its insurance company, Beneficial Life? Oh, that's right they took a 1/2 $ billion loss and closed it down. Hmmm... So much for Tommy's promise.

They will just pretend that he never said it, then distance themselves from by claiming that they were only a customer of the bank.
