Does anyone know why they are building a house for the president next to the Phoenix Temple? The temple is a small one.
The Gilbert Temple doesn't have a house for the president and it is a large temple. I think the Mesa Temple has a house. Is it normal to have the president live that close to the temple?

I thought the Gilbert temple WAS the Phoenix temple. You mean they're building even another?

Can you stand it?

They tried to get a big one built in Phoenix, but the neighbors put an end to that and they had to build a shorter, smaller one.

I'm not from there, but it seems to me (looking at a map) like there is three temples (mesa, gilbert & Phoenix) within a very short distance from each other.

Are they really that busy?

Oh there are a ton of mormons there, it's a hugely populated area.

The East Valley (Mesa, Gilbert, Queen Creek, etc.) has a far larger Mormon population than Phoenix proper, which has a Mormon population that is really nothing extraordinary.

Most metro areas have a fairly evenly distributed population of church members, but Phoenix is a rare exception to this generalization. Mormons gravitate heavily toward the East Valley of Metro Phoenix - and they always have.

Yeah I know all about the area, lived there for several years. While Phoenix may not have a lot of members, they are spread out, with a huge concentration in the East Valley. I would imagine the Phoenix temple would serve those in the metro Phoenix area. Between the Mesa Temple and the new Gilbert Temple I am sure they don't have enough room for all the folks living there. Also the Phoenix temple will probably serve those to the west. I am sure those three temples will be full all the time...gag!

They are also building one 2 hours south in Tucson. Arizona is almost as full of temples as Utah.

The Tucson temple looks to be done. It is a pretty building. I think the Angel Moroni has to face the east because he has his backside to the major road. That cracked me up--get it--cracked?

Too much coffee. Sorry. :)

It is an architectural abortion and a blight on the beautiful Foothills landscape.

You guys are all idiots. That is a church building, not a home for the temple president. Maybe you should check you facts

You're right, this totally looks like the church building that is already complete but somehow still under construction as of 2/22. All the church buildings I've seen totally have a 2 car garage as well.

Great. Another location to recycle the temple names for Johnny Walker who has been baptized 20 times and endowed 14 and sealed 80 times.

Why would a church building need a two car garage? or build a such a small building when a large chapel just on the other side of the parking lot is already in use.

They're starting to build like Ronald McDonald houses next to the temples so that all the people who do the "temple vacation" excursions can have a place to stay? Hehe
