I have to say we looked pretty sharp and rather authentic in our white shirts, conservative ties, black pants, nametags, bike helmets and backpacks. We even carried authentic (expired) temple recommends, hymn book and a book of mormon. We won the creepiest costume award: A few quotes from friends:
"Oh, you're not welcome here...get out of my house!" (party hostess)
"Did you bring us some pamphlets?"
"I used to be friends with some hot mormon guys, but they would leave for 2 years for Brazil or wherever. I was like when will I see you again...never." (gay guy)
"I always avoid you guys. Even if it makes my walk inconvenient, avoid at all costs!" (straight guy)
"Drunk Mormons!"
"I've never seen you guys in bike helmets, we live where they drive cars."
"Who is Joseph Smith? Are you kidding me? Haven't you seen South Park?"
ROFLMAO! Seriously - I laughed out loud and had to read your post to my kids who wanted to know what was so funny. And, who also laughed out loud when they heard you won "Creepiest Costume". You and your wife rock!
I went to a gay bar in DC dressed as a missionary one year for Halloween. The bar manager wanted to throw me out until I convinced him I was really gay. He thought I was there to harass the patrons.
I went to a Halloween party in California. My still TBM husband got talking to another guy & found out he was from Utah. Some other partygoer comes over & says, "No one from Utah is welcome here"
We quickly changed the conversation, but it was interesting.
