http://www.mormontimes.com/article/18669/Learning-perspective-from-the-Women-of-the-Book-of-Mormon

Quote >> Heather B. Moore ... researched and wrote about Book of Mormon women for her previous [fictional] books, says that her readers' desire to learn more about these women motivated her to begin the ["non-fiction"] book.

"The reason I decided to write 'Women of the Book of Mormon' is a lot of my readers would come up and tell me, 'Thank you for writing about the women because we don't know a lot about them,'" Moore said. <<

Translation: The chauvinistic 19th century writers of the Mo mythology forgot to create female characters. Thanks for filling in the fictional blanks with your "research"--research that couldn't have lasted more than ten minutes due to the extremely limited space given to "Women of the Book of Mormon".

The BoM tells that there were women.
The only two women that come to mind who have any story line at all are Lehis wife Sariah who joins in the lamenting and repents under the command of Nephi, and Jezebel who gets visited.

Everything beyond that it mere speculation and that speculation is created for only one purpose- to make the Book of Mormon more meaningful. Any character created will be a speculative work with only the biases of the author to support it.

The author cannot possibly "research" non-existent charactors who are never mentioned in the book. Nor can the author confidently paint an accurate portrayal of the existing charactors with such limited information.

In fact, given the only mentioned attributes, neither Sariah or Jezebel could be portrayed in a faith-promoting fashion.

(Isn't it Isabel, who basically is like Jezebel?)

Lack of women in the BoM is another indication of how little JS respected his wife and women he was sleeping with on the sly. Except for Eve, Mary and Sarah from the bible, his one memorable BoM woman was "Isabel the Harlot", not that she really did anything apart from being a harlot.

I don't know what she did, but her name is one of 3 women named in the BOM.

when everyone thought he was dead thanks to Magical Ammon testifying of the truth of Mormonism. Lamoni was so stunned at the TRUTH of his words that he passed out for several days and people thought he was dead.

Abish said he wasn't. Really quite a heroic act if you ask me.

You should be proud to be named after such an accomplished woman.

My dh's super secret name is Ammon... OMG! The church must be true. This is too much of a coincidence. I am going to share this as my testimony on Sunday!

I liked the gal getting baptised in the waters of Mormon. She was hot! Oh, and Nephi's wife, she was fine too.

Just sayin'...

They didn't have names, but they're mentioned in the Book of Mormon, so they be an inspiration today for the women of Zion.

With that name... No wonder they were both a little off...

Can you imagine saddling a girl with that one and her finding out the truth when she reached a certain age?

SLC
A nevermo who learned something with this one...

My convert daughter wanted to name her daughter Isabelle after her great grandmother. She was very upset when we named our new dog "Bella", because she didn't want her daughter to think she was named after her parent's dog.

She showed no signs of getting over it, so I finally had to tell her that Isabel was the name of a whore in the Book of Mormon and she hasn't said any more about it since then.

Thanks to RfM, I know a lot more about her religion than she does, in so many ways!

lol

None of the queens who show up in the story are mentioned by name. None of these writers ever mentions his own wife, and when women do show up in a specific role they're still almost never named. Nephi did not even bother to mention the name of the woman who saved his life by pleading for him in the desert.

Someday, after I die maybe, I might just get to understand just why women support institutions and people who treat them like dirt. If Mormon women would get a clue and stand up for themselves the whole fricken' house of cards would topple!

Right on, sister!! I don't understand it either, but I supported this system for decades....out of fear.

Better late than never, as they say.

And lest you think I'm being judgemental, I was a born again Christian for 25 years and the Christian God really isn't overly fond of wimmenfolk either. But I never claimed to be the fastest rabbit in the patch. :)

I don't think their names are mentioned in the BoM because they are too sacred.

Sounds like a really short book.

How do you do in depth research on a fictional book? I guess more power to her, she's just pulling "facts" out of her ass just like JS.

Just like they are too important and special for the priesthood. And they are so busy with the most important job of all.

Waiting on men hand and foot.

It doesn't sound like she's making up a whole lot. All she's doing is extrapolating what their lives would have been like based on the circumstances of the times.
