You've had a church dictating your underwear. Now you have a chance to use your own taste, comfort, and good sense to make this decision.
I say buy one of whatever appeals to you, then buy more of whatever YOU like best. That's pretty much how nevermos choose underwear and it might work for you.
I like the boxer briefs when doing a lot of walking or hiking, they help prevent irritating chaffing for me. I like regular good fitting boxes (not too baggy) when hanging at home in warm weather. The briefs, well, for me they tend to hold things in place better so I wear them when I want to show a nice package. Oh, and I have some flannel boxers that I like when it gets chilly out.
I also have both Hanes and Fruit of the Loom. I do like the cloth covered waist band on the Hanes.
There is absolutely no reason why you have to settle for just one type of undies.

For the reason I might wear a thong, I would rather go with a jock. I think a jock looks hotter on guys than a thong.
Oh, and I have some nylon undies that I wear when I am doing stuff like canyoneering when I end up going in and out of water as part of the process of getting from point A to point B.
Different undies for different activities and weather. There's a whole array out there and variety is the spice of life. Conside not limiting yourself to just one.
So says my dad, and that is what mom buys for him. The Jockeys are a bit more costlier but look to be like better made, seams covered and stuff like that.
