I am looking for further light & knowledge on the above subject.
Many years ago when I first started attending the temple, (London), everybody entered by the side door as it was said the front doors would only be used by the Saviour when he returns.
Was this the policy for all temples? If so, when did that change, because when the Preston Temple was opened in 1998, I was surprised to see there was only one entrance.
Just curious that's all thanks!

... after years of doing baptisms for the dead as a youth, I half expected to see angels and Jesus himself when I went for my endowments.

No.

First thing I see when I get out of the dressing room ... a fat guy in a crazy outfit. First thought was ... "ok, this is weird".

when I was kid doing baptisms in the Idaho Falls temple they had door in the baptistery that went all the way to the ceiling, like two stories. It was impressive. I asked why they were so high and one of the guys there said it was for when Jesus came back, that's why they were on the east side of room. I was like, "ahhh!".
I can't believe he really believed that. He probably went home and said, "hey, Bertha guess what I told a kid at the temple"? Hahaha.

I've always understood that the 'front door' to Preston temple is the bit around the back where the two lily ponds are with the grass 'walkway' in between, not the main entrance where the reception is.

You are right confusedrus, the doors at the back where the lily pond is are the doors for the saviour's return,I asked when the temple was under construction and that was the answer I was given,

So he is really going to take the time to return to all of the temples? Might be a stupid question but logistically it makes no sense.

Why would the Saviour go through the door when He could just appear like he usually does?

We are talking "Saviour" as in Jesus, right?
Or are we talking Prezident of thechurch/Saviours on Mount Zion?

I suppose a special door for Christ's return is symbolic as a kind of way of showing awe for a savior.
Of course, a savior wouldn't need an actual door! Not in my imagination anyhow! :-)
