Looking over the other mission website I posted while listening to the Thinking Atheist Podcast triggered a flashback this afternoon.

My mission president hinting during a mission meeting that God caused the Northridge earthquake because Northridge is the Porn Capital of the world.

There was an earthquake on the morning of the Los Angeles Gay Pride Parade. That year I was working the "Fundy Section" an area roped off where the fundamentalist would protest.

When the fundies showed up they were all "The earthquake is a sign from God telling us that the parade was evil". The policeman standing next to me turned to them and said "Well, if that was so, why did God gather all the gays safely in West Hollywood then strike the conservative Inland Empire with the Earth quake?" To this day I do not know if that policeman knew that the church those protesters belonged to was the Inland Empire Church of Christ.

Seems like all the hurricanes and killer tornadoes happen in those states.

God hates trailer parks.

Also, I attended a lecture by the commander of police forces over the Northridge area when the earthquake occurred in 1994. He said that the LDS chapels suffered as much damage as similarly built structures in the area. [Edit: I neglected to mention that this individual is also a Mormon, so he probably would have noticed if there had been any anomalies related to LDS structures as a result of the disaster.] So much for divine protection!

That's true, if he wanted to go after porn use, he would trigger an earthquake somewhere along the Wasatch fault zone. As for the Northridge earthquake, I don't remember hearing about any damage to the LA temple. The only thing I've heard is that after the Newport Beach temple was opened, the LA one was closed for earthquake retrofitting.

DAMMIT! I HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS. It turns out that the earthquake was actually centered in Reseda and the porn capital is/was Chatsworth, but whats a few miles this way or that way when you are Almighty God on a smiting spree.

No natural disasters in Utah? Wildfires? Snowstorms? Floods? Wasn't there a landslide that backed up the Spanish Fork river causing the most costly landslide in US history? The town of Thistle was flooded and destroyed. Hmm. Those damn mormons better repent!
