I know we don't have much to complain about here in Texas vis-a-vis this huge storm, but at 6:30 this morning, the temperature at my house was 72 degrees. Right now it's 41 and the forecast is for 23 degrees at 3AM tomorrow morning. Dayum! That's a 49 degree swing in 21 hours.

We had 67 for a high on Friday, and we'll have -2 for a high today.

Not a 24 hour swing, but a big swing.

It's 66F here in Tampa. I suppose that cold front is on its way here next.

When I lived in Minnesota, I saw it get down to -45F at my house one day and then up to 104F later that year. That was a 149 degree temperature delta in six months. I'm surprised there isn't more damage to materials, such as cracked driveways, from sudden temperature changes.

ExMormonRon,
You may have mentioned your location before and I missed it. You must be a little farther south in Texas than I am. I was up at 6:30 going to check on my daughter's horse with her. It was already 20 outside with quite the wind blowing. We are just northeast of Dallas.

Is it really a huge storm?

Or is it a lot of smaller storms all touching each other?

Bet them Steelers and Packers feel right at home. Jerry-World, home of this year's Super Bowl, is about 20 minutes from my digs.

Chilly, to say the least.

40 degrees with unusually sunny, blue skies for this time of year. Don't worry though - by the end of the week it'll be back to normal - gray skies with rain, rain, and more rain :p

Keep warm and be safe!

When I drove to work this morning it was 13 degrees F and snowing (harder than I've ever seen it snow at 13 degrees) and sticking. And it's only supposed to get worse. I was told not to come to work tomorrow, my first snow day since 1992 (kindergarten). I'm in western New York.

Our newest beloved Celtics celebrity, Shaq!, has become the unit of measure for our snowfall. As of yesterday (before todays 8 inches and the foot coming tomorrow) snowfall for January was measured at Shaq's shoulders!

The snow along our driveway is at 7+ feet so we REALLY have to throw high when we shovel - adds that extra oomph to the workout!

There's a monster storm heading straight towards us. It's just now reaching Detroit, which is about a 4-hour drive away from me.

Blizzard Warning
Statement as of 5:24 PM EST on February 01, 2011
A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 3 PM CST /4 PM EST/
Wednesday.

* Timing...The heaviest snowfall is expected to develop between 7 PM and 3
am Wednesday morning.

* Accumulations... snow will be heavy at times with accumulation
rates likely reaching or exceeding 1 to 2 inches per hour. Storm
total snowfall of 10 to 16 inches is likely... with possible
localized totals up to two feet.

* Winds... northeast winds from 20 to 35 mph... with wind gusts up
to 40 mph. Gusts will continue to increase later this evening
and continue overnight to 40 to 50 mph.

* Blizzard conditions... strong winds combined with considerable
blowing and occasionally heavy falling snow will reduce
visibilities to near zero at times.

* Thunderstorms... isolated snow-producing thunderstorms are
expected to develop tonight... resulting in localized intense
snowfall rates. It is not uncommon for snowfall rates to
exceed 4 inches per hour in thunder snow making travel nearly
impossible.

* Travel... Road conditions will continue to deteriorate.
Travel is expected to remain treacherous as winds increase
resulting in white out conditions. Unnecessary travel should be
avoided at all costs through early Wednesday morning as more
than half of the fatalities in blizzards have occurred as a
result of traffic accidents.

* Power outages... the combination of strong and gusty winds
along with possibly heavy wet snow sticking to power lines
could result in power outages. Due to the prolonged nature of
very adverse conditions... plan accordingly for the possibility
of a prolonged disruption in commercial power.

* Other impacts... the heavy nature of the snow will make
shoveling very difficult... and potentially deadly.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel! If
you absolutely must travel... have a winter survival kit with you.
If you get stranded... stay with your vehicle.

I am right in the middle of the "blizzard zone" on all the weather maps.

I work at a residential child care facility/boarding school/I don't know what to call it and was off yesterday and today. I usually shop on Wed, so I knew I had to go last night b/c there's no going anywhere for a few days. I went to Woodman's last night and seriously- it was like the end of days.

Anyway, I shopped for our girls. Our school is about a block away. It takes two minutes to walk there. We have already called off school for tomorrow (most of the faculty live off campus) so I'm stuck with kids all day, which kind of sucks. (Normally I'm "off" during the day.) However, I've planned a day of movies and cookie making and laying around in PJs. I even washed my favorite pair today! (Doing laundry just in case our pipes freeze.)

I was just outside trying to move my car and holy shit- it is end of the world type weather. In all my years in Wisconsin, Colorado and even a winter in Switzerland I have never seen anything like this. We even got some of that thunder/lightening that they said might happen.

On a more ironic note, I live in one of the oldest homes on campus. We still have forced heat radiators. I have this HUGE radiator in my room that I have no control over. To keep the rest of the home warm enough for the girls, the heat has to be turned up to the point where it's at least 90 degrees in my room. That being said, in the middle of this storm I have one window wide open and my window air conditioner (that maintenance never took out) on. You can't make this shit up...

Mama and Dad, they use oil lamps stead of candles. Safer, easier to carry around and all that.

Seriously. Don't like the weather? Wait half an hour...

Every spring we'd get a HUGE storm and 48 hours later you wouldn't see a speck of snow anywhere.

(ETA the above was in response to the huge temp change in the OP.)
