Did the LDS corporation REALLY try to trademark the name "Mormon"?

Only to be rejected by the patent office?

I'm not surprised. In yet another 180, the same church who urged all members to use the full name, or if it must be contracted, use LDS and correct anyone who calls you "Mormon"...the same church now publishes ads ending with

...and I'm a Mormon!

Simply because the arm-of-flesh PR firm they hired to replace inspiration from God told them to..

Great observation. I hadn't thought of that.

Its so odd. I wrote an Ensign article once and had a terrible time with the editors who kept changing my wording to LatterDay Saint when I wrote the word Mormon. It so pissed me off because I was writing about my thinking before joining and I would never have thought of them as LatterDay Saints. They fought me tooth and nail on the correct correlated language. So now they're officially putting out ads saying I'm a Mormon! God I hate their duplicity.
