Logan's Run Remake

In line with the 2/5/2011 thread "Logan's Run and the Morg...." started by ozpoof (which I thought was a GREAT thread!), there's news all over the web today about Logan's Run being remade by Warner Bros. this year. They're saying that Ryan Gosling will play Logan, and Winding Refn will direct. Production will begin in May, according to the news reports, and the new film will be released next year.

Kind of exciting, eh?

Actually, you should read the novel (novella?) by William F. Nolan..

It's quite different from the original movie. In the book, people only get to live to 21 (instead of 30 as the movie) and the entire story takes place over a 24 hour period.

Extra credit: Does anyone here remember when William F. Nolan, the author, posted here on RfM? Or am I misremembering that?

On the DVD commentary, the director said they couldn't find enough <21 kids to play the crowd scenes.

It seems less believable with such a young termination date. Training even for a Sandman would take up so much of their lives.

Hollywood is out of ideas. The movies they should remake are Ep I-III. Though the end of 3 was ok. This time jarjar needs to be force choked. Rhat tub of lard lucas will never do it though

I love science fiction but some of those episodes were too juvenile. I like to suspend belief but give me a break with the xenomorphs that resemble human ethnicities too

- a aerodynamically impossible blue "Jew" with a perpetual 6 o'clock shadow that is tight with money? Meh....

Too many Muppets(TM) for me.

I have a soft spot for Logan's Run. There was a very brief scene at the end of the movie that was filmed at the Fort Worth Water Gardens: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Worth_Water_Gardens

I was there to watch some of the filming and got to see Jenny Agutter and Peter Ustinov in person.
