It's not gay marriage (yet) but I wonder how much money the LDS church has spent fighting this since May 5, 1993, the day that the Hawaii State Supreme Court ruled in favor of gay marriage. I bet they are really pissed off.

It's a good step...but "separate and equal" is always unequal. I don't see what the problem is. I don't understand how people can in good conscience be hate filled bigots who discriminate against other people. Either everyone has the same rights or no one has any real rights at all.

It will take a couple of very brave civil union partners who are employees of church operations in Laie to apply for this work status. And it would be best if they derived from the majority Polynesian community.

And now a more serious comment:

Civil Unions are a stepping stone to legal acceptance of gay marriage. Once Civil unions are commonplace in the world, the step to married status is a small one. Civil union campaigns are proving successful in most parts of the world, there is one going through the European Union legislature as we speak.

The Church is fighting a losing battle, they will be forced to circle the wagons into an even smaller circle in the not too distant future...
