About a week ago in a thread, "OT, but I'm just speechless. Bristol Palin raked in a quarter mil last year for advocating abs[t]inance"

Ok, so where did this come from?

I'm going to guess it was from either a preacher, pimp, or politician, actually not a pimp...no pimp. Let's try politician. Here's something...

In the video link below, Senator Jon Kyl's claimed that abortion is "well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood does."

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2011/04/08/exp.tsr.planned.parenthood.cnn

You're off by just a little bit Jon, it actually turns out to be only "3%."

Stephen Colbert, wanting to play the game, took this as an opportunity to release all those other semi-ok-not-really-factual-at-all statements about Senator Kyl such as:

"-Jon Kyl cheated on Sandra Bullock."

"-Once a year, Jon Kyl retreats to the Arizona desert and deposits 2 million egg sacs under the sand."

"-Citing religious reasons, Jon Kyl refuses to utter the number 8."

"-Jon Kyl developed his own line of hair care products just so he could test them on bunnies."

outch.

Or young teens who are responsibly having sex (courtesy of PP-provided condoms and birth control).

and then spew them forth at RFM.

Hey, outofutah, how about a little FACT CHECKING before you post again, OK?

None of which changes the fact that PP does make millions of dollars per year performing abortions. That is factually TRUE.

Last year, Planned Parenthood performed 332,278 abortions. The cost of a first trimester abortion (which is less than the cost of a second or third trimester abortion) ranges from $350 to $950.

Even assuming every one of these abortions was performed in the first trimester (which is NOT the case), we're talking $116 million at a MINIMUM. This is undeniably "millions of dollars."

332,278 abortions is approximately 3% of total PP services, but still accounts for over a hundred million dollars of services.

It depends by what you mean by making.

You need to factor in such matters as how much the organisation spends in running costs, including cost of abortions (drugs, medical instruments, pre-and post-counselling, etc.)

Anyone who doesn't is, IMO, shrilly shilling for the religious right, as they spout propaganda as FACTS.

Factoring in the overhead, I seriously doubt abortions are a big "for profit" arm of PP. 100 million is crap.

People want you to believe things like PP wants to set up shops in malls so people can can just drop in for abortions like they are impulse purchases. (which was ACTUALLY SAID) It's just inflammatory.

They might be in a mall, but I hardly doubt for most women they think "I'll go buy a purse... oh a planned parenthood - let's get rid of this pesky pregnancy. I've been meaning to for a while."
