I read this on a pro-LDS site.

"If only our latter day prophets could write their visions and revelations given by God to them:)"

I guess the smiley face means something?

What exactly is keeping "prophets" from writing down their prophecies? God's caprice? People aren't "worthy" for these things?

The mind reels at this.

It is obviously not going to be discouraged. It is tooooo convenient.

JS wrote all his revelations down as did other prophets from the past. I can't remember who said on here that the 12 now say that talking about seeing God or talking to him is too sacred so they can't talk about it--but the early leaders always did.

I thought that was THEIR JOB--to receive revelation for the members and TELL THEM. Pretty sad when the only revelations they can tell us about or write about is how many earrings the girls can wear and what color of shirt the men have to wear.

he knew what happens to Prophets words if they're committed to paper. Just look at all the people who've left the church over the profits words that were printed and then hidden away. Or look at all the stuff they tell us not to read for fear of our test monkeys being broken!

The profits of today know better than to make prophetic utterances and allow them into print.

Kind of defeats the prophet's job description if you can't share it with people or write it down!

WTF are they good for anyway?

TBMs seem to love the idea of a prophet but can't really tell you how one has done his job.

Can't share it or write it down. And people can't tell when one is speaking a s a prophet or a man. So what's the point.

I keep thinking that an all powerful God would certainly be able to come up with a better system to communicate with his kids.

And then how they are 'special witnesses' of Jesus to the world, but they claim their experiences are too sacred to talk about. Yet followers have always shouted their 'special witness' from the rooftops whether they are delusional or not.

Isn't sharing the whole point?

I find the LDS 'prophets' suspect...

It is the same in my mind as saying you special needs and won't tell people why you need your milk a certain temperature or that you need all the questions reports will ask you given to you in advance.

In an institute class I had, the teacher brought up a general conference in the 70's where the prophet said that the members were not doing their part in living what they have, and as a result no new revelation would be had until they "got their act together" or something

Hehe...good ole double bind!

Amazing how that conveniently shows up when shit starts to fall apart...

Which is actually very interesting in this instance. Aren't prophets for people who don't have their act together? Otherwise why would you need one?
