The next time a TBM gets married and they want family who don't have TRs to attend, what would happen if several of the unwashed just walked in and sat down and refused to get up. When they're told to leave they politely say "I'm here to see my sister/cousin/whomever get married."

Is it possible to do that? What would happen?

When I got married my family wasn't allowed in the Temple. My brother-in-law (my sister's husband) asked what was keeping him from enterint, what would stop him. I told him that some old man at the front desk is all that's in his way. I'm surprised something like this hasn't happened already, there's not much really stopping a non-temple worthy person from at least entering the temple.

The dude that ran security for the ABQ temple was an ex seal. Even though hes old I would hesitate to go toe to toe with him alone. My guess is that they would have the cops come drag everyone out and have them arested for trespassing. Once everyone was out they would likely offer to drop charges if the individuals involved signed agreements not to go to the press.

Inside each temple is a barrier called a "recommend desk". It isn't much of a physical barrier but if you tried to push past it I'm sure things would get ugly in a hurry. Once past it you'd still have to know where the sealing room was located. It would most likely be on an upper floor and you'd have to navigate some stairs or an elevator.

I love the idea, I'm trying to figure out how to make it work.

You'd be trespassing on private property. They would call the police and have you removed.

It's not the same at all. Rosa Parks was sitting down in public transportation. The kolobian temple is private property...

Besides, it's super easy to get a fake temple recommend. I used one to see my brother's sealing. And then I just "passed it back" to my friend who wanted to go, too. It helped that we entered through the baptism entrance. Those old men don't even read them when you hand it over..

How do I get one of these fake recommends? I really want one. I'll pay for it (but not 10% of my income) if necessary.

They would have to allow the police in the temple. I think this would be a pretty cool thing to do. Although, who would want to see a sealing after knowing what it entailed?

That's quite a fantasy :)

But if those TBMs are TBM, they would never be a part of it. You would be violating what they believe to be one of the most holy things in the world.

Sadly, one of the most boring things in the world. A temple wedding is conducted like a business arrangement. There is nothing romantic or endearing about it.

Sounds like a fun thing to try to do, though. Just to get the old geezers all riled up.

No they probably wouldn't agree to be a part of you crashing the temple, but they do want the unwashed there standing outside pining to get in. (yeah right) So instead of standing outside pining, get thy butt inside and use passive, polite resistance to keep it there as long as possible.

in the parking lot as the grounds were quite small.

It is a cool idea--just the thought of not being allowed to commune with your own flesh & blood loved ones because you need a "debit card" to get into God's house!

What would they do if Jesus showed up? He wouldn't have a temple recommend that's fershure!

Pulling a "Rosa Parks" would be committing a legitimate act of civil disobedience against an unjust law while being backed by a very well connected community of like minded people.

Refusing to leave the temple is trespassing, which is a correct and just law.

I don't see how the two things compare.

"Refusing to leave the temple is trespassing, which is a correct and just law."

Technically, yes, it's private property owned by a private corporation and can only be entered by card-carrying paid members; that's where a certain amount of hypocrisy comes to the fore: is it all about the love of Christ and celebrating the joining together of a man and woman in a holy place, or is it a super-duper secret fraternity with dues, rules, and secret handshakes?

Just sayin'...

As you have all seen the "SECURITY DETAIL" on Temple Square waiting to move on the lingerers and protesters. You know the guys with earpieces and same colored ties, some packing , ex cops, FBI, military, but all waiting to descend on wrongdoers. etc ..

From a good, high up informant, there is a **CHURCH SECURITY DETAIL** attached to every Temple in the LDS Church. Sometimes these are made up from local returned missionaries and sometimes they are paid security guards, but all with the mandatory Temple Reccommends. **NO REAL POLICE ALLOWED**

These security guards would remove the felon from the temple and pass them over to the local police for prosecution..

FYI the LDS Church security is the second largest private security organization in the **WORLD**

And if it were a Utah temple odds are more than likely that youd be brought before a judge who is also LDSand in that case you can expect to be doing some significant time.

Myself and an African-American colleague went down to the Phoenix city airport early one morning so that we could have the personal honor of meeting this brave and honest civil rights icon face-to-face as she came off the plane at the gate (back in the days when non-passengers were allowed to go down to arrival gates).

Ms. Parks exited the plane in a wheelchair, escorted by a group of assistants. She was small in size, quiet and gracious. With a simple smile and few words, she politely agreed for us to have our photographs taken next to her, as we expressed to her our gratitude for her courage and example.

When Ms. Parks returned to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1985 for the 30th anniversary of her arrest prompted by her refusal to yield her seat to a white passenger (which sparked the city's ground-breaking bus strike led by a young Martin Luther King, Jr.) she said:

"At the time I was arrested I had no idea it would turn into this. I certainly wouldn't change anything in my fight for freedom." According to the New York Times, she later said she was too tired to get up.

I think ex-Mormons should follow Ms. Parks' example when faced with Mormon Church violation of and disrespect for our individual right to choose our own course in life.

We should simply refuse to yield to LDS religious oppressors, informing these boundary-busting Mormons who are in our space and face that we are sick and tired of moving out of the way to accomodate their unreasonable and unjust demands and expectations.

We should do so while accepting the consequences without apology or excuse.

Damn the torpedos. Full speed ahead.

Thank you, Rosa.

I don't know...no matter how disaffected we may be or no matter how much the church may have hurt us, this is one of their most holy and sacred traditions. It seems very disrespectful just to charge in on what they call "holy ground." Deny that and mock it all you want here, but let's not be sacreligious bulls in a china shop.

TSCC uses our love for our family against us.

I would have loved to crash to doors of the temple while my DD was married inside. But I knew that doing so would cause too much damage to our relationship, perhaps irreparable damage. It just wasn't worth it.

Then cry bloody murder if someone calls the police when mishies go to doors where they've been banned or fake their way into apartment and condo complexes where they know they're unwelcome.

Mormons can dish it out but they can't take it worth a darn.

An interesting question in light of the morg's history of racial bigotry and abuse.

Wasn't it several years ago when a family forced their way into the temple to pray,,and was arrested?? Probably for trespassing.

I'm not a fan of the idea, either. That would be making someone else's special day all about you. Mormon brides already get comparatively little in the way fanfare compared to others...why ruin the day for the innocent?

Brought back a strange memory for me, though. Went to my SIL's wedding at the Oakland temple. The rest of us could all go inside, but my gay BIL had to wait outside, alone. He spent is time gathering up rose petals from the garden, and scattering them in front of the big main door, so it would be pretty in the pictures as they came out. They didn't come out that door...and I don't think anyone ever recognized that sweet and thoughtful gesture from someone who was shut out. Still makes me want to cry, to this day.

Maybe that could take the form of waiting outside in front on the public sidewalk carrying a picket sign that read

BARRED FROM DAUGHTER'S WEDDING

MORMONS ANTI-FAMILY

etc.

And call KSL...
