at a combined wards meeting they got up and read a letter from Monson and Company...I was hoping for some new revelation but alas.. it's all about the money - again!

paraphrasing:

We are asking all ward members for donations to build another memorial on the Susquehanna river where the P hood
was restored,Please earmark mo' money in the other category
Priesthood commemoration fund iirc.

So now we got...

Tithing
Fast offering
Ward Missionary
General Missionary
Book of Mormon Fund
Humanitarian aid
New Temple Construction
Perpetual Education fund
other:
Phood commemoration

Why don't you just take all of it?

oh you are!

3 billion for a mall and they have to ask for money to build a memorial. Un-friggin believable!

is getting what they deserve. Sorry, I don't feel bad for the math challenged fools who buy lottery tickets; they know its a waste of money so they get what they deserve.

Same with cult contributions. Tithing is the price of guilt so I guess they got what they paid for.

Such a grand historical event, and it was so important JS did not even record the date. That would be, because it never happened!

They should let their light from their self-proclaimed status of "the-only-ones-with-all-the-truth" shine, and be a beacon to the world. Actually, they should go for the gold, or more gold, on this one, and build an entire visitor's center. It could counter the fundy creation museum showing dinosaurs boarding the ark. If crazy fights crazy maybe they will cancel each other out.

I want to see a proclamation to the world about Jesus soon coming back to where the Garden of Eden REALLY TRULLY was, Jackson County, MO.

I see the mainstreaming they are working so hard on taking giant leaps forward.

And who are they gonna say restored the it? Are they going with JS own words in "history of the church", by him, that he and Oliver gave it to one another, or with Oliver's story, that the church has officially adopted, that J the Baptist came down and gave it to both of them by the river there?

Or is this for the Melch. P. only, are they really gonna say P, J and J came down and restored it? Wow, that will go a LOOOOONG way in mainstreaming!!!

Anyone else get tired of the site worship - ancestor worship in the Morg?
Sure don't hear much about JC anymore in the Morg!
All this Joe Smith worship and JC takes a big back seat
and only get a nod at Christmas and Easter.

http://independentweekender.com/index.php/2011/04/27/mormons-to-restore-historic-site/

The church’s purchase of 10 acres of land in Oakland Township for $2.1 million in January rekindled discussion about the church’s serious interest in likely creating a visitor center.

This is sacred ground say's the Church's Marlin K. Jensen

The greed always shows in the end.
A "tithe" only ever meant 10%.
They'd love to rewrite it to mean more, but they can't so they just demand more...
Kind of like being raped.

tithing was supposed to be on a persons increase, NOT on their subsistence! there is a difference! but I have friends on SSi & LDS Inc demands *tithing* from them.

How about a freeway sign so tourists can find the memorial for the Mountain Meadows Massacre site in Southern Utah?

...to not spend money they don't have on luxuries they don't need, yet the brethren don't say to themselves, "This memorial, while very nice, isn't really necessary. It's at least a MUCH lower priority. So let's put it on the back burner until we have the cash to pay for it."

The bishop of our IL ward refused to read this ridiculous letter. FYI - the COB also sent this message as an email to all finance clerks.

This does tell you tithing funds are way down, partly because the economy is down and partly because Jon Huntsman most likely ain't paying a full tithing, well any would be my guess. Smart man. Just HIS tithing alone, I am pretty sure, could solve a few of these problems they are having.

I would bet many many mo's who no longer believe, but still attend and fake it for family, social or business reasons do NOT pay a full tithing. Why in the world would they???

Usually for something like this or say a temple, they just take it out of tithing funds, don't they?
