I received a Bachelors degree in Developmental Psych., and went into counselling youth in a home setting. Which to be honest, I didn't really enjoy. But it was a good living. I was aproached by my BP one Sunday morning, and he asked to talk to me privately in his office. I wasn't worried, because I knew I had been a good morgbot. Once in his office, he asked for my complete confidentiality, which I gave. He said that tithing settlement was coming up, and would I consent to sit it on some of the interviews, to give him my proffesional opinion on whether these interviewees were being truthful, or not. I politely declined, and the topic was dropped. strange request?!

So much for the "gift of discernment"

I'll bet that changed your professional opinion of him.

I'm a therapist, and I still have a hard time deciphering if clients are lying.

Especially if they believe their own lies.

And would he really need to know? He should just do his best and if he gets lied to, that's for the lying person to deal with internally...why does he feel the need?

Damn Nazi tactics.

Even if some people were lying, tithes are between the individual and his god.

You know, what if this bishop is finally realizing it is all a scam and feels responsible to not judge these people poorly before he gets out? I'd say that's a good move.

Why anyone would allow someone else to be in the room during tithing settlement is beyond me. I would not have allowed that to happen.

Along similar lines, because of DH's computer forensics background, he was asked to determine if a member's home computer contained pornography. I declined and replied that we don't do assess what is on members' computers. The person then became more than crabby on the phone for which the reply was still negative. Eventually, they hung up after hearing the word "no" more times that I care to count.

The wifey was trying and hoping we could find some incriminating evidence to support her claim that he was smuck and needed divorcing.

At least, you were smart enough to turn him down.
