My mother claims that Gordon B. Hinckley had been a car salesman at one point in his life. While that might explain some things, I can find no documentary evidence of this. Does anybody out there know more?

The fact that he did dodge many things and spoke like a true car salesman is purely coincidental..

Hinckley Dodge is another part of his family, IIRC. He did NOT ever sell cars. His one and only job outside of church employment was on the railroad for a year or two. Other than that he suckled on the church teat..

I have never heard that he worked there, but it's possible.

I don't think we'll ever know how extensive the top leaders' business networks and dealings have been over the years. They have always been in a position to literally give people the business--i.e. church contracts, investments, etc. They can direct favors in the direction of favored relatives, associates, businesses and so on.

Jon Huntsman flew the Hinckleys around on his private jets. Were there ever any quid pro quos going back and forth? Who knows?

Look at all of the directorships Monson had on the boards of directors of technically "unrelated" commercial enterprises while he was serving as an Apostle of the Lard. Why would an Apostle ever need to serve on the board of directors of a bank in which the LDS church had no investment interests? It's a mystery for the ages. ;o)

Is Greg Dodge related to Hinckley Dodge?
