This story, on CNN, is an interview with Joplin Stake President Creed Jones. In reality, it is a quite touching story, but it still appears God plays favorites. The story doesn't mention he is a Mormon or a Stake President, but someone who knows him confirmed that he is their stake president. His interview mentions eternal families etc.

It is a touching story. What a scary thing to go through. I didn't get the sense that he was saying or inferring that God played favorites and/or actually blessed him and his family more than others because they were Mormon though. I think he was just acknowledging that they managed to come out of it more fortunate than others did, and was grateful for that.

I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong.
