I forgot who it was that was asking for ideas on a last Sunday School lesson idea, but reading another thread gave me an awesome idea for one. I almost wish I hadn't told my bishop or wife about my doubts, just so I could teach stuff like this in church.

I would begin by teaching about the Gadianton Robbers, and how they used secret combinations. Then move on to the Jaredites that used secret oaths to do evil works. Then read some scriptures about secret combinations and talk about how bad death oaths are and how we could identify false churches by similar coercive tactics.

I would then close by saying how in my 10 years of temple attendance I could testify that there were no death oaths or penalties in the temple ceremony (which is true, in my personal experience, and nobody could openly oppose me in it). Of course I would be scanning the faces of the older people in the class and trying to hold in my laughter.

In Sunday School, teachings regarding ANY Christian principles - values - ideals are ALWAYS pointed at No-Mos...
As If the Mormons have those 'automatically' nailed down!

Mormons Don't Allow (at least Don't Encourage)
lessons on ordinary Christian topics such as Kindness or Forgiveness.
