I posted that video on my blog and some Mo came along and told me I was arrogant and overbearing.

Marie:
"But as far as speaking her mind, that should be the man's job."

I don't think she quite realized what she just said....or did she. This is 1978 Mormonism after all— blacks don't have the priesthood in the interview and the ERA is about to get derailed by the Bros.

Glad I was an oblivious 11yr old at the time.

If I ever said anything like this, my Exmo wife would laugh...if she thought I was even the most remotely serious, she would think I lost my mind and then go tell me "Go **** yourself."

They sound like members of a cult with no good reasons for their cult being a cult.

"I don't know," he said. Pretty honest and better than what missionaries his age would have said. I like that he didn't pretend to know for sure. He was stuck, like we were at that age, with the general idea that the Lord wanted it that way, (because the Lord works in mysterious ways that confuse me. :) )

Marie's answer about men, "you need to remember that you need a strong patriarch in the home" was so over the top cult like, I imagine she must be cringing now. Especially since her strong patriarch Brian Blosil used to beat the shit out of her and her kids.
Gag.

He beat them? I hadn't heard that, but heard that he didn't do much in the way of supporting the family financially or emotionally.

Which # husband was Blosil?

He was #2. The odd thing is, I watched a documentary about the Osmonds and Brian Blosil was held up to be a great priesthood leader. Indeed, Marie had a child with him in 1999 and adopted another child with him in 2002. Her eldest son, Stephen, was supposedly using Blosil's name (per imdb.com)... So I wonder just how much of an abusive guy he really was... if he was beating on her and the kids, she certainly had the resources to get out of the marriage quickly.

I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I am wondering where Cristina got her info.

Marie implied on the interview with Joy Behar that Blosil was a bad guy... and supposedly her late son, Michael, hated him. He didn't attend Michael's funeral because of the so-called abuse. He might very well be guilt of what Marie says he did, but I am married to a guy who has been vilified by his ex wife and was badly treated by people in the Mormon church because they believed what the ex said. In my husband's case, the reality was that his ex wife was abusive. I see the aftermath of that abusive relationship on a daily basis and my husband is one of the most even tempered, non-violent, decent guys I have ever known.

If any LDS female had the resources to get out of a bad marriage early, it was Marie. It surprises me that she would spend 20 years with someone who was abusive to her and her children and would opt to have more/adopt more kids with a man who was abusive.

Marie might very well be telling the truth, but I am a little skeptical.

When Marie was on Oprah she asked her to comment on the Inquirer story entitled "I married a monster." The story claimed that he beat her and sprained the muscles on her shoulder and she ended up in the hospital and lied that she had fallen. The story also said he was being investigated for molesting the daughters. Marie told Oprah, "well..." and then said she could not respond directly except to say it was a very dark and painful marriage.

To me that was confirmation. Because she didn't deny it.

There's also information I heard years ago that her son Stephen went to live with his father Steve when he was 17 for 2 years because he had physically confronted Brian for hitting Marie. Stephen wrote on his CD cover to his dad that living with him for those two years were the best of his life. He also said to Brian that they've had their problems.

I do have inside info from their divorce told to me by an attorney involved. Brian would have gotten custody of the children since he was a stay at home dad while Marie worked except for the abuse.

WHen their son Michael killed himself he had just a few weeks earlier filed a name change petition in Utah asking to take remove his last name "Blosil" because he has a tense relationship with his father. His sister Jessica did the same thing and made almost identical claims in her name change petition saying it was because of the strained relationship that she wanted his last name removed and be known now as "Osmond."

Maria also told Oprah that Michael had once before tried to commit suicide because he heard something bad had happened to someone in his family a couple years earlier. She did not specify what or to whom. But the Inquirer reported it was when his sister told a school teacher in Vegas that her father had molested her. All the kids turned against him at that point leading to the name changes. That investigation from what I understand is still ongoing.

Marie told Oprah all the kids came to her and told her that if Brian came to Michael's funeral they would not attend. So she did not invite him.

The part about the beatings, Marie pretty much paused and did not deny to Oprah when she asked.

Wow!Thst explains a lot about the problems Marie and the kids have had. I have to wonder why she stayed so long and adopted kids with him.

I happened to be at Disneyland during the weekend of an early Children's Miracle Network telethon in the summer of 1989. My husband and infant son were with me and we were sitting in the audience for a little of the taping. I remember Marie being VERY pregnant at the time and Brian Blosil leaning his arm on her shoulder like she was a prop to hold himself up while the cameras weren't rolling. She was eating a popsicle to cool herself off. I was so turned off by that big lug doing that to her....and in front of so many people. I don't recall what shocked me more, that he acted like he didn't give a damn that she was ready to pop or that she allowed him to do it. Is that what the priesthood is for? Ugh. We got up and found more entertaining things to do in the park.

Poor Marie is about 12 shades of crazy these days, but in defense of her and her brother, this interview WAS 33 years ago. I probably made people want to vomit at that age, too.

With all due respect they have gotten no better. I find Marie more likable than Donny. He comes off as a complete ass on the Behar show when he's discussing Mormonism.

Maybe that's the deal. Theses people look like idiots when they're trying to defend their stupid religion. They can't help it.

I wondered if Donny was trying to be funny. I couldn't tell for sure, but if he was, he needs to work on it. I don't mind Marie except for her loud laugh. That gets on my last nerve. She seems to be more real than Donny.

At least Donny gave an honest answer. He didn't know. That's how I used to answer that question on my mission too. What can you say?

You can say the apostles and prophets of our church have told us that the blacks received the mark of Cain on earth because they were not valiant in the war in heaven against Satan.

That is what we were taught and that is what we were told to teach.

Now the church acts like they have dementia and pretend they do not know why....This is lying for the lord

We offer more to the black people than any other religon...

Really? And I am speaking post 1978.

Really? Well being black I can in ALL honestly say...there is no evidence of that!

Yes they do offer more grief
Yes they do offer more racism
Yes they do offer more anguish

Hell I guess Donny is right!

Here's a summary. (Brian's abuse investigation involved two states, Utah for child porn and later Nevada and Utah for his daughters allegations.)
