i thought it was the plural of "moron" as in stupid...like "many morons"
i figure, js thought that by the end of the book everybody who believed would be a moron or "many morons" would.
not kidding. that's what i thought when i was attending seminary 14-15 years old. then i got ejected as in "never come back please", but that's for another topic.
If they had, we would have had the Moronic Priesthood instead of the Aaronic Priesthood--and I think Moronic is a much more indicative and accurate designation. ;o)
Someone pointed out that the current use of Moron post-dates Moroni.
However, it does come from the Greek world Moron, meaning foolish or dull and Smith DID like to show off his smattering of languages, so maybe it was a joke he coined in advance of Moron becoming a common word?
according to my post-doctoral research done in the most prestigious universities around the world, renown man of fame that i am, wealthy as a good mormon running my very own multi-level business, i would have to conclude with my colleagues also experts in "reformed egyptian" that "moroni" means simply..."what a fucking moron if you finished reading this book and still believe all this bullshit"
