My understanding is that the British policemen do not carry a firearm. Is that correct?

From what I can read in the online newspapers it sounds like the Army should definitely be called into action to put an end to the anarchist's violence.

Incorrect. While the average beat cop in UK has no gun (they have sprays and "control devices"), many police in Britain, in special forces groups, are armed, with guns and tasers.

I have read that, since 1998, there are 333 cases of death of suspects while in police custody in Britain, and yet there have been no convictions of any policemen for any crimes of violence against detainees.

The Duggan case seems to be another case of police extrajudicial execution.

In general, they do not. Though a colleague was astonished recently to see a raid on a local business by police officers armed with what she described as machine guns. Probably H&K, from her description.

So officers can be armed, with either pistols, revolvers or machine guns.

England is one of my favorite places I've ever visited. I can't stand the pictures I've seen so far of the aftermath.
