I've been wanting to post this for a while now.

About two years ago I was having a conversation with a gentleman who works in the same building as I do. He is RLDS and lives in Independence, MO. After about a year of speaking with him from time to time I finally asked him what he thought about Brigham Young.

His answer was that most RLDS folk view BY as a scallywag. As we know, BY didn't think too highly of Emma Smith either.

So I was thinking how the missionaries use the BofM as a tool for conversion. We ask investigators to pray whether or not it's true. Because, if the BofM is true, then JS was a prophet. And, If JS was a prophet, then the LDS Church is the only true church.

My point is, the RLDS believe the same thing. They believe in the BofM, JS, revelation, the first vision, etc.

What we really should ask investigators to pray about is whether or not Brigham Young was a true prophet. Because, that is the defining difference between the LDS and the RLDS.

(Obviously, the RLDS are now the Community of Christ. However, this man was part of a break-off that didn't agree with the change to Community of Christ so he still believed the RLDS story.)
