OMG, sin, right (t)here in River City.

Businesses are complaining that they are losing too many sales to surrounding cities where beer can be bought. Who is going to buy groceries in Provo, then drive to Springville for beer?

OTOH, why are the grocery stores open in Provo? They aren't in Highland (picking up a thought from the Highland thread). If Provo were really righteous, beer sales wouldn't be an issue. There'd be no sales of anything.

Alas, Babylon. ;)

...we got a pro football team. Existing law banned the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sundays until 1:00PM. (Can't have people going to bars instead of church, ya know.) But fans were going to be showing up at the stadium before the 1:00PM kickoff, and they'd want beer. And the stadium and concession owners weren't going to allow people to bring their own. Oh my, what to do? Of course, the law was modified.

Between restaurants in The Lord's Own Mall, and restauranteurs in Provo, it usually boils down to profits before prophets.

How progressive! When I lived in GA, we couldn't buy any alcohol on Sundays.

Here in Tuscaloosa, we couldn't by alcohol on Sunday until we passed a referendum in April. But of course, you still can't buy it until 11:00 (after church).

API Provo, Utah. The city council is considering a vote of approval for the twentieth century. Many on the council are undecided whether or not the century should have taken place. If approved, the twentieth century will be allowed to gradually creep into local culture.
