Timothy's history and familiarity with the LDS Church may have resulted in a bit of hyperbole, but I grew up immersed in the racism here in Utah (and this was in the Salt Lake Valley; elsewhere was worse).

Not sure about Lynchings but Mo theology definately taught we are born into circumstances appropriate for how we performed in the pre existence. Hence slavery was not to be challenged as it was Gods plan including gods plan for spirits being born black and in poverty etc as a direct result of pre earth valiancy or lack of in this case.

Obedience to Mormon Doctrine(pre existence)brings wealth/blessings including a white skin and money etc and continues to do so in this existance also according to Mormon Theology and it's leaders.
