I want to pay attention to his voice mannerisms for reasons I can't disclose and might as well have a good laugh in the process.

I'm pretty sure it's on Youtube.

That was pretty bad, but I'm not the Oakes stupid talk expert.

So there might be worse ones.

They are all pretty bad, but here's the most recent bad one.

(That's the text, but there's a link to the video.)

'truth' is a Roller-Coaster in Morland/ChurchCo; sometimes it's Up, sometimes it's Down; it comes INTO FASHION, and then it goes OUT for a while.

D'oaks outta check back with what he said earlier about Truth <not all truth is Useful>.

If what Doaks & ChurchCo said wasn't so Ironic/Tragic, it could be 'funny' (the haha) kind, that is)

If I was listening to Doaks in person, I would have stood up, raised my hand; but that would have been the Most politeness I could manage...

This Oaks talk is a fun one that was expertly picked apart.

But now I'm all curious about the voice mannerisms curiosity. And you won't say why?
I frequently am mistaken for having an accent by locals. But I am a local too! I guess I talk funny. :(

Let's just say that even as I feel drawn to model my behavior and appearance after the Savior (i.e., matching General Authorities) in terms of attire and personal grooming, I also seek to deliver my talks and spiritual messages with similar stop-start pacing and melodic tones descending from high to low in my sing-song, authoritative sentences.

Best I've got so far is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eME3a2191ms but as time goes on and my obedience quotient and personal worthiness ratio increase, I will morph even more into the kind of mouthpiece that God's mouthpieces would want me to be.

Much more like Neil Maxwell than Oaks in this instance in my estimation.

Oaks dumbest? Was the one Oaks gave in General conference (Oct 85) explaining why Joe Smith was legit in refering to angels as salamanders. then a little while later Mark Hoffman was exposed and the hoax that Oaks had been sucked into trying to justify was also over.

WOw, Oaks really looked STUPID! for some funny reason the talk as given in GC is not found in the cassette tape sets of conference talks or In LDS Inc talk archives. you will never hear it if LDS Inc has their deceitful revisionist way.

Oaks gave the same basic talk to BYU faculty and that version in print is still floating around the net.

here's some others

Lucky could you post a link to that talk, either visual or in print? Thanks. I've never heard of this before.

There was a PBS special entitled, "The Mormons" that was a documentary of the LDS church produced by a non-Mormon who was basically neutral toward the religion when she did it back in 2007.

Many Mormons and former Mormons were interviewed about their experiences with the church, and one of them was Dallin Oaks.

He was asked about his beliefs regarding TSSC and he said the following: "We believe that it is wrong to criticize church authorities, even if the criticisms are valid". This is nearly verbatim.

This is a quote that I've also heard from other church leaders, and is a general attitude prevalent within Mormonism.

I'd say this quote is just as "dumb" as it gets, if not downright disturbing.
