The United States government is more powerful than the mormon god. Not political

God's biggest changes came from the U.S. banning polygamy and threatening to stop their tax exempt status for not allowing rights to blacks. You'd think that god would just show his power to the government so mormons can live their way.

That was one of the slam dunks for me: The church is supposed to follow the law of the land, but what if the law is mutually exclusive to your core religious belief?

Dontcha think God's law trumps all?
Ahh, screw it, we'll move to the Utah territory.....

I think this became quite clear after President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, threatened to have the tax exempt status of LDS Inc reviewed regarding LDS treatment of African Americans, and instantly a new revelation happened directly from god.

President Carter referenced his call in his latest book containing the day to day schedule of the President.

I'm calling BS on this.

The tax exempt status of BYU may have been challenged, but of the Church itself, not a chance.

LDS Inc still blatantly discriminates against women in very nearly all leadership positions, and definitely all Priesthood positions. That clear gender discrimination poses not the tiniest threat to their tax-exempt status. Neither did their racial discrimination within the religion itself.
