No excuse for it but feeling downhearted . . .

I just read a post on facebook that one of my former students has been "called" on a mission.

He was a wonderful, quiet, sensitive student, very bright, intense and serious. And given what I know of his personality, he is the type likely to feel isolated and frustrated. I can imagine him being one of those who falls into a deep depression. It just makes me heartsick to see him waste these next two years.


And of course everyone of the Mom's friends and family are issuing congratulations.

I suppose it's none of my business but I feel like they just captured another great kid to brainwash and indoctrinate!

You feel that way because they did just do that, and that is sad. Everyone deserves a chance to learn who they are as a person...

It’s tough to watch a good young man succumb to cult pressure. Nevertheless,…

… the mission may prove to be the undoing of his "faith," as it has many RMs here.
