Anyone know if the CHI says you have to hold a temple recommend in order to be a witness at a child baptism. Primary Pres is telling people that they do.

No, you only have to be a priest or better who is in good standing. You only have to have a temple recommend to witness for baptisms for the dead. It's in all the priesthood instructions.

Don't you need the melchez priesthood to be a witness? So you would at least have to be an elder to stand and ensure they go completely under.

you might be right though I am not sure. I know that a priest can baptize. I remember being a witness, when I was young, but I can't remember if that was while I was an elder, or while I was a priest.

...require a recommend for more and more things -- particularly the things you might WANT to do, if only to make your family happy. It's another way to coerce members into qualifying for a recommend, which means paying a full tithe.

I hope they keep adding to the recommend requirement. The more trivial the better. How about you need a recommend to clean the toilets? or ring the bell. I always wanted to be the bell ringer. Alas, I don't have a penis. I really don't get the connection.

Two Melchizedek priesthood holders, IIRC from my baptism.

Been out m-a-n-y years. My grandfather baptized me in a creek (1950's) with the whole church congregation looking on.

My X was baptized in a church building, witnessed by family members (male and female) and some of the members of the church.

Are you using "witness" in another way other than "to observe" or "see"?

What is CHI?

It's the Church Handbook of Instruction -- the book of church rules and policies used by bishops, SP's, etc.

Sadly, women, with their embroidery-addled brains, cannot ever act as Witnesses to LDS baptisms.

You see we just can't tell if someone or something is submerged under water or not.

Makes bathing very difficult, let me tell you.
