There are a number of us here who write fictional pieces.

Here is a little fun challenge for you. Slip a "negative" mention about TSCC into your next short story.

It doesn't have to be a particularly big mention, I slipped one in to one of the stories I recently published, though it was perfectly normal in the context of the story I wrote.

Wow, yes! It IS a covert operation! Hadn't looked at it like that, but yes, that's what it is!

...the woman who tried to leave the church and was found smothered in baked goods.

...the man driven to madness by continually receiving calls to a senior mission for his dead parents.

...the child who refused to be baptized kidnapped by the Three Nephites

etc

How bout a man saved from a hoard of brainless zombies by a group of assigned friends from the ward, only to find that the horror had only just begun....

and the chapter won an award. A girl gets her period while doing baptisms for the dead. I haven't read it, only heard about it.

The story was published in a college literary review magazine, I got a certificate with a cash award, and I read it to an audience of attentive professional writers.

Very validating for a little farm girl who grew up in a polygamy compound in Utah.

You're right, matt, it's fun. I've written a couple of autobiographical pieces that were ruthless about LDS subculture, ha ha.

You could add a simple little paragraph like this,

"As I walked down the street, I saw two young men in white shirts and ties talking to my neighbor. They held out a blue book as they spoke. I silently wondered how they could be so gullible..gold plates, an angel, a seer stone in a hat.. they probably wouldn't mention polygamy or the priesthood ban for blacks. I rolled my eyes with a feeling of slight irritation..."

Then they could simply proceed with the story. ROFL!

I wrote a short story a while back about a Mormon serial killer. That was a lot of fun!
