Mormons and Spies

My 20-something daughter, who has been out of the church long enough to have forgotten most of it, said the funniest thing the other day.

We were talking about secrets, and I made a quip about knowing something so important that if I told her I would have to kill myself.

She laughed and responded that the cool thing about being a spy was that if you had really important information, and told someone, you would have to kill them. As a mormon who had been through the temple--if I told any of those secrets, I'd have to kill myself!

She wanted to know if I had really believed that at one point. I was almost ashamed to tell her that I had.
