This is a very un-Mormony holiday. For some fun, look it up. It's along the lines of the stupid seagull miracle, but so much better!

How did I not know about this holiday?!! I adore Finland...it's one of my absolute favorite places to visit. I have this rule that I will never get married unless I get proposed to at Suomenlinna , off the coast of Helsinki...most beautiful place ever! Anyways, thanks for making me aware of this wonderfully ridiculous day!

Thanks for the reminder!

Did you guys know that Finns used to have their very own mythology with gods. great magicians, warriors, wood elves, the lot? And a creation legend.

You can read about them for example in Kalevala, the Finnish national epic poem.

But we know none of that was true, because there was no way they had the same good feelings about their belief that we have about ours...

Kalevala was made into a prog rock epic.

I'll listen to Finlandia. I played the song while in orchestra in high school. I thought it was the coolest song ever. I still think it is. The music for "Be still my soul" was taken from it but I now think of Finland instead of singing that song in church.

An admittedly fabricated legend with no pretense at historical roots! Subjected to changes with no attempt to pretend "it was always like that." Celebrated because it is fun.

I can drink to that. Skol!
