When BY took over??? I was reading my great ancestors account when he ran around with JS, Whirled, Kimble &u others and when he came to the valley with BY and noticed BY didn't become "prophet" until Dec 1847...

No prophet for those years between? Haven't finished reading but what gives?

P.s. my family has never spoke about my ancestors plural marriages. Funny how they conveniently only talk about his first wife and the one he married after his first wife died. Lame

One school of thought I've encountered in the church says that JS was the only talk-face-to-face-with-God kind of prophet of the modern dispensation, but that since then "prophet" has really been only a job title. The "living prophets" are the ones who hold the keys to revelation, but they have "revelations" the same way any other Mormon might -- the good feelings about an idea they've prayed about.

Of course, another school of thought is that there are no such tings as prophets, so none of the church presidents have been one.

That's not what they've taught since JS. they taught the the prophet is god's mouthpiece on earth, remember?
