TBMs are finally starting to figure out that Joseph Smith stole the BOM from Spalding.

The woman who owned the book said:

“The first edition is not quite as good as having the gold plates,” Ashworth said, “but it’s right next to it.”

Not quite sure what to think :-(

well those thieves really did not get much !

from the article

"Schlie says her edition was used as a missionary tool as people were able to touch “the DNA” of Joseph Smith and the other witnesses."

a person would have to be a real MORmON to want to touch Joe's DNA. that sounds just awful!

I can think of a few dozen women that were able to "touch the DNA of Joseph Smith"

I don't think Mormons understand how DNA works. Of course if they did, none of them would be Mormons.

I would have busted a gut if she had removed more pages, so the article would read "the book is missing about 116 pages."

A rare book dealer, removing pages from a rare first edition of anything!?!? I happens more than you would think...

“Mormonism started with a book, and that’s the book,” he said. “Everybody wants it.”

I would only want it to sell to the highest bidder.

WTF? She cut pages out of a rare book and displayed the pages in frames? Sounds like a particularly daft Relief Society craft project.

confettibooks dot com was selling first edition individual pages for a couple hundred dollars a piece.

What the f-ing kind of rare book dealer cuts a book apart? That's like selling little squares of great paintings. To be clear, the BoM is no great work of art -- except for the art of flimflammery -- but still...

I can only assume that the rare book dealing had in his posession many great works form the early 1800s that had pages missing or cut of of them. So, the rare book dealer when looking through the old book of mormon said, "well, would you look at that! here's the missing page from my other great work of literature." He's only removing the pages Joseph Smith stole from other literature and returning these pages to his own book collection. No big deal.

available from 5000 printed. He has purchased about 3 dozen.

The 1830 is available online at various sites:

You can buy a reproduction on Amazon for less than $30.

If you think the current BoM is hard to read, you should really give the first edition a quick look. OMG.

Did she have it insured?
Is anyone corroborating her story?
