I don't know if this has been posted here, but I saw it on other boards. It's right in how it describes the church's view on modesty as being a fetish.

Wow. Totally loved that article. It is so true. I feel like the Church uses the "modesty" issue as a way of labeling who is in the group and who is out. AND I think it can harm children, because it makes them uncomfortable about their bodies and creates a perspective of the "forbidden" that makes our bodies "mysterious" or "bad" instead of just normal.

I loved it so much I posted it to facebook. See what all the TBM's have to say about it.

...and some of the actually enlightened comments. And then I read the letter in the BYU Daily Universe by Mr. Wes Thompson of Bartlesville, Oklahoma (wow--now THAT sounds like the seventh circle of hell, no offense to any who may be native Bartlesvillans).

Dude, WTF? I truly feel the pain of that guy's missionary companions.

Whereas her hippie-style upbringing desexualized more of the body. Eh, it's just skin. The same thing happens in nudist colonies or professions that involve nakedness.

But Mormonism is a perverted way of thinking -- about a lot of things.

This was a great article. She is so very very right. I remember several weeks ago that story about the girl in Utah with a dress missing a sleeve. How many Mormons thought that girl was immodest JUST because of her dress? All the girls with her in frumpy dresses could of been terrible people that slept with every guy they met, but they knew how to play the LDS game. That's all it is. I really wish people would see it like that. I know growing up LDS that, yes, we are taught to be ashamed of people and ourselves when we are showing skin, but really what does it all mean? How is a few inches of skin off the shoulders really going to change your personality. I think it's all just another way of how the church means to control your life.

Concealing young women from clavicle to ankle is one of religion's greatest crimes.

Shoulders aren't a sexy part of a woman to me. I'm more of an elbow man.
