Mia's thread started me thinking. If Europe is such a disaster as far as 'the work', as well as my mission in Houston (I taught 3 people who were baptized), the crappy retention rates in South America, what is the payoff for the church?

What else could it be?

Do you think the missionary program is able to operate from the family contributions and other money donated for missions? Does the program also get subsidized by tithing?
Surely what they collect in tithing from Africa and other places isn't enough to make it worth it.
