Did Joseph Smith want his son to run the church once he was gone?

According to Fawn Brodie's book there is sufficient evidence to suggest Smith did actually want the church to be hereditary. Have you heard anything about this?

Yes. JS believed leadership was hereditary, just like in the OT.

He claimed to be descended from Jesus, after all. And it was one reason the claimed transfiguration of BY was important. "See, everyone, BY should be the new leader, even though he's not related to JS."
