The irony of the prohibition against R rated movies is lost on TBMs. The violence in the scriptures is R rated. It is difficult to find a chapter in the Book of Mormon and Old Testament that is not so filled with violence that it would be tossed out of Mormon homes if it was not thought of as sacred. Much of the violence is also commanded by god which is the worst situation of all in my opinion (e.g., Laban's head, the frequent wars in the Book of Mormon, the genocide of the Canaanites). I would not want any kid of mine to be exposed to that kind of violence.

Many years ago during my early BYU coed stint I had a roomie who used to like to call me to repentance because she didn't think I was spirtshul enough. So one day I sat her down and invited her to read the scriptures with me. She was thrilled until I got through reading the Song of Solomon to her. Never had much to say after that!

I would bring this up in classes during certain lessons. I would always get the look. You know, the look.

No, the Book of Mormon movie was rated PG 13 back in 2003!!!!

In all seriousness though, very true. The scriptures are violent, and would be rated R. Mormons are often hypocritical. I shared on here before that I had roommates that would steal music online, yet get mad at me for drinking coffee and watching entertainment they felt was against their values.

I'm not fighting a crusade against downloading music illegally. If you want to do that, have at it. However don't lecture me about what I drink and what movies I watch if you do.

It's true. The scriptures are voilent enough for an R rating.
And don't get me started on how Genesis is actually a pretty dirty book.

Exactly. Things like, "Hey sis...let's get dad trashed and hop in the sack with him" Genesis 19:32

Oh man, I remember this comic strip where the Teachers Quorum was trying to "crack" their new RM teacher and one of the things they said was "we could discuss what Lot did with his daughters."
