I was 9.

I had no idea my world was so fragile.

I do remember the bomb shelters. They were like odd little houses underground. I also remember the bomb drills that had us in the fetal position in the hallways and under our desks.

I didn't think much about that. We also had fire drills where we went out onto the playground. It was part of school. It didn't scare me. Nobody talked about the reason for the drills.
