It's my mom's birthday today. I wanted to take her on a fun day just the two of us, but she has to go to church at 11 first. So she said she can't do anything til 1. Sigh...

At least I'll still get to do something with her, but it's just annoying that church gets in the way.

She said that she should go today, because she hasn't been in about a month. It's not even that she wants to go, it's that she feels guilty not going. I really need to finish writing the letter to her, I started it, then life got crazy.

Stupid guilt inducing, shitting all over fun church....

So, she hasn't been in a month for no really good reason but now that she has a really good reason to skip it (having fun with her child on her birthday) she decides she HAS to go.........?

She goes through stages of guilt about it. Especially when my dad pushes her...

Oops, that was meant to be a reply, not a new post.

I'm still trying to get over the instinct that we have to be prepared for the Sabbath. Just last night, my husband suggested going to a movie today. I'm not used to having that extra day of fun. I wonder how long it will take me to adapt.

Every day is the sabbath. Every moment is a moment that we can realize that God is within us, God is us, and we are love. So said nobody important to the world.

You will need to go to hundreds of movies, to adapt, Twojedi's.

I never bat an eye anymore about 'breaking the sabbath.' In Utah, it is the day to shop, not stand in line at movies or restaurants. Logan, Utah becomes as unpopulated as it was in the early 1980s. It is WONDERFUL. So nice not to wear those damn nylons!

Tell her it's just like doing sacrament shots only better.

She used to enjoy liquor, before I was born.

DW will not eat out, shop or go to a movie on Sunday. It's a pretty boring day around here. She does, however, have an addiction to sports and will watch it on TV any day. Her one little vice.

She hasn't been for a month...so she was willing to skip it on other Sundays when it wasn't her birthday.

Is she doing penance? A birthday only comes once a year and giving up half of it to maximize the pain and show Jesus how much more he means to her than time with her daughter is...twisted.

Sorry, but it is what it is.

We always have so much fun when we are together, I make her laugh the world away. We would not have survived had it not been for one another.

Her priorities may not always be right, and while that is her decision, on some levels it is not her fault. My dad's manipulation and control run a lot of her life.

No matter what, she is my mom and she is trapped. And yet... I love her.

Brings to mind during my marriage to my TBM ex, how one Mother's
Day I stopped off and bought flowers for her after early-morning
Priesthood meeting (those were the days before the 3-hour block).

She was furious with me because I had shopped on the Sabbath! I
mean FURIOUS at me.

However, in the evening on a Sunday she would often suggest
going across the street to the Motel lobby to buy a candy bar.
When I mentioned that it would be shopping on the Sabbath, she
pointed out that after Sacrament meeting it kinda feels like
Sunday is over so it's OK.

That is really messed up and it is typical of a Mormon to chastise one person for making a "mistake" and then justifying it when they make the same mistake.

On a few occasions though I have met some really awesome Mormons who are totally chill and non judgmental and fair when it comes to chastising...although I would consider them more of jack-Mormons and are not at all what you would consider a "good Mormon" who just stay in the church because they are told it's right :P
