If someone resigns from the LDS church the LDS church indirectly discloses this to their parents by changing the parents membership record to indicate no confirmation date for the children.

I wonder if this is legal? Are there any laws preventing religions from doing this? It kind of seems like it is a matter that should be kept private and should be legally protected.
