My mom and I both have B&N Nook Tablets and she started reading a book the other day on hers, called "Latter-Day Cipher." She recommended it to me and has offered to lend it to me when she's finished. (By the way, she considers herself an exmormon but my dad believes so she goes to church with him.)

I think it's a murder mystery that has to do with blood atonement. I read the first chapter- a woman is murdered, and the murderer carves the garment markings into her skin, then chants "pay lay ale."

I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this book or has read it. Thoughts on it?

I hope you enjoy it. Maybe we should start a book club. Haha.

Latayne Scott, the author, has popped in here on occasion.

I'd wondered about that.

I'll look it up, thanks!

Edit: I do also enjoy printed books. ;)

What makes it anti-Mormon?

Well, while it deals with Mormonism, it does so in a way that Momons would find offensive. I've read a few chapters now and so far it has openly talked about things like the garment markings, temples, and polygamy. So it's not directly anti-Mormon by preaching about the 'evils' of TSCC but it's displaying them in the plot. In any case, it's definitely not pro-Mormon.

The first Sherlock Holmes story was about Mormonism, polygamy and murder: "A Study in Scarlet".

Zane Gray sure gave the Mormons a bad name in Riders of the Purple Sage. Pretty accurate rendition of them, so I've heard.
