I was talking to my son yesterday and he has a TBM freind, male, that was recently married. The friend was complaining about how his new wife had forced him to pay tithing on all their wedding presents (i.e. gift cards, gifts that they had to estimate the value on, etc.). He wasn't happy.

He should have said no...they have their whole lives to give their 10%.

Gifts are just that...GIFTS..

And so it begins... Another exmo broken couple in the works. People that give in this situation should white in the card that it has been pre-tithed.

Reminds me when my kids get birthday money from their grandparents, they always say, "don't forget to pay tithing". Irritates me. If they wanted Jesus to get the extra .20 cents, they could just do it.

I've never even heard of that before. Next up, Christmas presents, birthdays...

Actually many TMB families already do this. I had to pay tithing on all of the money I received for birthdays and Christmas as early as 6. Well I got the choice to pay or be unrighteous and have god judge me.

I had a BYU religion professor also insinuate that if weren't paying on every thing including any added produce we grew in a garden we were being unfaithful.

It says you are to pay 10% of your "increase." It doesn't say
where that "increase" comes from has anything to do with it.

I'll gladly give 10% to the Lord. But the Lord has to come and
request it himself. I'm not going to believe any man who CLAIMS
the Lord told him I'm to give it to him. If the Lord wants my
tithing to go to anyone, the Lord can tell me himself.

Yikes! That BYU professor is a moron Mormon! If you grow herbs or vegetables in your garden, that you should pay tithing on that????? So freaking extreme!

I have a niece who also has been paying tithing on her birthday and Christmas presents and any money received since she was 6.

OMG... I can just see Tommy Monson smiling broadly, giving high-fives to the people sitting next to him, and shouting "KA - CHING!"

He knows he's succeeded with this woman, and that he'll receive a lot of future 'donations' from her for the rest of her life.

He know's he's got it made with her, and he'll work at getting more like her 'on board'...

My husband won a new pick up truck. The bishop asked him when he was going to pay tithing on it. No answer from us!

Tithing money does not go to "Jesus." A good lesson would be to take the tithing money and dump in into the fountain at the City Creek Mall. "There ya go, kid. It ends up in the Mall, anyway."

NOBODY is 'forced' to pay tithing; for my vote, the guy's a wimp; not that this doesn't happen too much.
People to learn to be "standing for something" (Hinckster book);

Depending on the guy's (wifes) Bp, SP, they'll back her to / past the point of Divorce.

and they claim that 'Family is the most important unit in time & eternity...' (HWHunter) Pure Crapola, folks.
