I think he fell asleep, before he could post more. Nothing puts you to sleep faster then formulaic LDS piano arrangements.

I would have made the same comment, but I'm not well versed enough in musical terminology to say anything. I wish he'd finish the thought, though . . .

1. Keep it in major key.
2. Keep it in minor key.
3. Use big 6 note chords.
4. Tempo must be kept slow.
5. No syncopation.
6. Must have 4 plus versus with chorus.
7. Must be able to be sung with only the first and last verse if there are time restraints.

Now, you see, the first LDS service I ever went to was a funeral, so I figured you play funeral music in a funereal style...then I go to a few SMs, just to placate TBM family, and the music is funereal in style there, too. Even if TSCC wasn't b.s., how could any STAND it? Not my style worship, let's just say.

I need to add an 8th one, I'm afraid: play the melody line and chord, like in all of the best "fake books."

Is it just me or are LDS piano arrangements are unbelievably formulaic?

Step #1: Almost every piece of LDS sheet music starts with twinkling high notes about an octave or two above Middle C that whisper out the melody.

Step #2: After going through the melody once, the song tacks on some spontaneous thirds and raises the volume a tad.

Step #3: (optional) Every now and then you run across some fancy scale, or a snazzy up-and-down pattern, or a little 5-second thought that makes you forget about the melody for a little while.

Step 4-7: Read the rest at http://www. truebelievingmormons.com/lds-piano-sheet-music-arrangements/

Oops! This made me laugh today and thought I'd share real quick but perhaps too quick: http://www. truebelievingmormons.com/lds-piano-sheet-music-arrangements/
